Frequently Asked Questions About Beef Tallow

What is sebum?

Tallow is derived from beef tallow, which is the most nutrient-rich fat from cows. It can be ingested or applied topically and has incredible healing and nourishing health benefits. As a skin care product, it is the most indulgent and therapeutic balm or butter you will ever use.

What makes tallow so special?

Tallow contains fat-soluble vitamins and fatty acids that benefit and renew the skin, making tallow balm a very diverse skin care product for all ages and all skin types, no matter if it is summer, spring, autumn or winter.

What are the benefits of 100% grass-fed and grass-finished tallow?

100% grass-fed cows produce the highest quality tallow due to their diets. This also ensures that the cows do not ingest pesticides or herbicides in their diets. Cows that are supplemented with corn, wheat, etc. do not have the same nutrient profile in their tallow and are therefore of lower quality for skin care. Tallow is rich in fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K. It is also rich in B vitamins. It increases collagen production and is anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, and bioidentical to the sebum on our own skin. The name tallow actually means “tallow” when translated. It also contains conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), which fights cancer.

How can tallow be used?

As an all-over moisturizer, it is incredibly nourishing and hydrating. Our tallow balms and butters can be used for dry skin, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, burns, wounds, scarring, athlete's foot, stretch marks, hemorrhoids, skin tags, acne, mastitis, shingles, facial primer, after shave to soothe skin, ear infections in kids, pain management, wrinkles/anti-aging, cradle cap, cracked heels and hands, diaper rash, vaginal yeast infections, itching, chapped lips, sunburn, topical steroid withdrawal, hand, foot and mouth, etc.

What ingredients are used in your products?

The tallow we use in our products comes from local farmers who practice regenerative farming practices. We believe that is really important from start to finish.

The oils we use in our products are organic to ensure the best quality. After all, they are applied to the skin.

What skin type is your product for?

All skin types! Whether you have dry skin, oily skin, combination skin, or skin problems like eczema, psoriasis, rashes, or burns, tallow balms are fantastic for gently treating all types of problems.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, we do.

Is tallow suitable for all skin types?

Yes, tallow is designed for all skin types and is compatible with the skin's natural lipid profile. However, it is recommended to test on a small area first, especially for people with sensitive skin or bee allergies (due to honey and beeswax).

How should I incorporate tallow into my skincare routine?

Can be used as a moisturizer, spot treatment, or as an aid to target specific skin concerns. Adjust usage to your individual skin needs. See below for application tips.

Can it be used on the face and body?

Of course, it can be used on both the face and body to treat various skin problems. Apply a small amount and gently massage into damp skin.

Tallow is much thicker and more concentrated than our whipped butter. This means it lasts longer and is ideal for smaller areas of the body (like the face). Body butter is more airy and therefore may work better for spreading over larger areas or very sensitive skin.

Does tallow have a strong smell?

The tallow we use is triple filtered, which eliminates the meaty smell you may have experienced with other brands of tallow.

Can it be used together with other skin care products?

Yes, it can be integrated into your existing skincare routine. Apply it after serums and before sunscreen during the day or as the final step in your evening routine.

How to use tallow:

They may look like small cans, but since they are so dense, a little goes a long way!

The application method makes a big difference for this product and is a step up from your average moisturizer.

Here's what we suggest:

Apply the balm to damp face/skin after showering or (if face is dry) after cleansing, take a pea-sized amount of balm and warm it between your fingers; add a drop of warm water if you still find it too thick.

Once it's warm and has a very smooth consistency, almost like melted butter, apply it to your face. Massage it in for a minute or two. It should absorb within a few minutes and leave your skin feeling moisturized and glowing, but not greasy.

The uses for this material are almost endless, but here are some ways it can be used:

**For best results, apply to damp or warm skin after showering or washing.** Apply daily to face and extremities for a powerful anti-aging and revitalizing effect.

Apply to acne-affected skin to heal and soothe it (rinse and gently wash face, then apply balm).

Apply as needed to dry lips or dry skin to heal and rejuvenate.

Apply to sensitive skin after shaving or washing to prevent dehydration.

Apply to sore feet before bed to soothe and soften them.

Apply to burns, irritations or scrapes as needed until relief is felt (this won't take long).

Apply to acne-affected skin to relieve acne (and sometimes reverse it: for seven days, rinse with warm water or a natural cleanser before bed, then apply tallow)

Apply to eczema-affected skin to soothe and restore.

Apply to psoriasis-affected skin to soothe and calm (test on a small area)

Apply under eyes to minimize wrinkles and restore color.

Apply to chafing or rashes for a quick, soothing healing effect.

How long does a bottle usually last and what is its shelf life?

The duration of a bottle depends on individual use, but a small amount is sufficient. On average, one bottle can last for several months. The shelf life is at least 12 months; it can be used after this time, but it is recommended to use it within that time frame for optimal effectiveness.

Can you use tallow with makeup?

Absolutely! Apply all your skincare products or just the sebum and then wait for some time for it to absorb before starting with your makeup. If you like a glowing look, wait less time for it to absorb and if you don't like that, wait about 15 minutes before starting with your makeup. It should give you a moisturizing base and help your makeup to settle well on your skin and look fresh all day.
